Hello!
I want to buy a ruby ring at an online store. The listing states “Natural ruby (LGF)”. I contacted the store asking what does the abbreviation stand for but they wouldn’t reply.
So, what is a LGF ruby? Is it really natural? Maybe it is an abbreviation of a mine where this ruby was mined?
Best regards, Emmet
LGF stands for lead glass filled. Thus, it’s a composite ruby, and it is not correct to state it is “natural”.

On the one hand, it is fair that the seller mentions the fact it is a LGF ruby. On the other hand, it is not really fair to state it is a “natural” ruby. LGF rubies are far from being natural. For that exact reason they are called “composite rubies” (according to GIA).
